Jewish people from all over the world come to Rhodes to learn about the Jewish heritage, and also to find their ancestors. A Jewish heritage tour is a ‘must-do’ tour for all visitors to the islands of Rhodes. It’s fascinating, insightful and filled with history.
The tour takes part in the old town of Rhodes but includes the village of Lindos and the Kalithea Hot Springs. In the old town you will walk through the Jewish Quarter with a guide. Highlights of the tour include:-
- The Jewish Cemetery
- The Square of the Martyred Jews.
- The Holocaust Memorial
- The Kahal Shalom Synagogue
- The Jewish Museum.
You will also visit the Acropolis of Rhodes by car although if you prefer to walk up, chat to your guide.
There will be time for a coffee or iced drink with some leisure time to wander the alleyways on your own, chat to the locals and do a little shopping at some of the fabulous street side stalls. Then, continue to the village of Lindos. There will be a stop for lunch in the town square of Lindos – take your time, enjoy the cuisine, and the sunshine, and maybe a glass of ouzo – and then walk (or choose a donkey) to get to the next Acropolis, up on the hilltop of Lindos.
The photography from up here is fabulous and you will create many beautiful memories. The tour of the Jewish quarter is quite emotional and the small village, with it’s views of turquoise water, rocky outcrops and whitewashed homes and chapels, will be a welcome relief.
Drive home via Faliraki and Kallithea for a perfect ending. You can do this tour on a private basis if you would like to, especially if you want time to enter the synagogues and museum.
